ORILLIA OPP INVESTIGATING SERIOUS COLLISION AT HIGHWAY 12 AND FOREST AVENUE

(Orillia, ON) – Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a motor vehicle collision at Highway 12 and Forest avenue in the City of Orillia.

On April 18, 2024, about 12:28 p.m., Orillia OPP, along with Orillia Fire, and County of Simcoe Paramedics, responded to a two-vehicle collision involving a commercial motor vehicle and a passenger vehicle. 

An injured driver was extricated from the passenger vehicle by firefighters and paramedics. 

ORNGE Air was dispatched and transported a 27-year-old male to a Toronto area trauma centre with life threatening injuries.  

The driver of the commercial vehicle was uninjured. 

The OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) have attended the scene to assist with the investigation. 

Highway 12 remains closed at Gill Street and Atherley Road while crews work to recover the involved vehicles.  Please refer to @OPP_CR on X (formerly Twitter) for road closure updates.

At this point in time the investigation is ongoing. No further details to be released at this time.

A 27-year-old man who was the driver of the sedan was extricated by firefighters and paramedics.

He was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre with “life-threatening injuries”.

Highway 12 remains closed between Atherley Road and Gill Street. Updates will be posted to OPP Central Region’s X (formerly Twitter) account.

(ORIGINAL STORY)

One person has been airlifted to Toronto after being freed from their vehicle Thursday afternoon after a collision involving a transport truck on Highway 12 in Orillia.

The accident happened around the noon hour at the intersection of Highway 12 and Forest Avenue.

Ontario Provincial Police have closed the highway down between Gill Street and Atherley Road.

Ontario Provincial Police advise parents picking up students at St. Bernard’s Catholic School and Regent Park Public School to use alternate routes.
